Aim

To work with parents as partners in providing quality care for their children.

Why

• Parents/carers are an important part of their child’s life. They know their child best and can help us to understand what their child can do

• Parents/carers need to build relationships with the practitioners who are caring for their child to ensure we achieve a holistic approach for each child.

• To help parents/carers to understand why their children do things like a child exploring a particular schema for example a parent says “my child keeps covering themselves with paint at home and I keep telling them not to do it”. If the parent knew this was an enveloping schema the parent could support this.

• To enable us to have a two-way flow of information with parent and between providers, if the child is attending more than one setting.

• Giving feedback about how their child is doing at nursery is vital to the role of supporting them.

Objectives

• To spend time with the child’s parents/carers at the introductory session explaining in detail how the nursery operates.

• To spend time with the child’s parents/carers at the introductory session to build up a profile of the child’s development and needs.

• To encourage parents/carers to visit the nursery at any time.

• To provide parents/carers with starter packs containing information about the nursery before their child starts nursery.

• To offer parents/carers opportunity to read all the Policies and Operational Manuals of the nursery at any time.

• To provide parents/carers with the latest Ofsted report.

• To display activities etc on Notice Boards.

• To provide opportunities for parents to discuss their child’s progress.

• Sharing videos (when appropriate) with parents to give them a snapshot of how their child is developing

• To provide guidance and support home learning.

• To provide regular written reports to parents giving details of their child’s progress.

• To offer an annual open day.

• To provide regular newsletter.

• To provide copies of all our menus.

• To carry out a child's progress check between 24 - 36 months - see separate policy

• To provide a full service via our web site.
